Teeth Whitening

Over time, our pearly white teeth start to discolour.

A host of factors can contribute to discolouring including the food and drink we consume, smoking, and age.

The majority of stains are the result of smoking or consuming foods that contain strong colourants such as red wine, coffee, and tomato-based foods.

Discoloration of this nature is limited to the upper enamel layer of the tooth’s surface. Other stains can be the result of hereditary factors or caused by taking certain medications. These tend to be located deeper in the tooth, in the dentin layer.

Teeth can be whitened through the use of a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide that develops into a hydrogen peroxide. A variety of different whitening formulations are available that range from 10% carbamide peroxide (equal to 3.4% hydrogen peroxide) to 38% hydrogen peroxide.

BEFORE & AFTER

Natura Clinics | Teeth Whitening

Natura Clinics uses a powerful 150-Watt halogen bulb that emits a high-intensity blue light (480-520 nanometers wavelength) to efficiently whiten stained teeth that have been discoloured by food and beverages, smoking, or even medication. Before you start any teeth whitening treatment, our dentist will help you to develop a teeth whitening plan that is aligned with your needs and the level of discoloration of your teeth. The treatment times will vary according to your desired whitening results; however, sessions typically take around 45 minutes in total.

During the whitening process, the oxidizing agent enters the enamel and dentin and chemically reacts with the discoloured particles that sit within the structure of the tooth. This causes the molecules to reflect less light and the tooth subsequently appears to be lighter.

One common concern that patients express is that teeth whitening will cause damage to the tooth. At Natura Clinics we use a secure whitening system, which has been proven to maximize whitening while also ensuring optimal patient comfort and safety. Our technology incorporates the most advanced light filtration system available to create powerful results at a lower temperature than alternative systems, thereby reducing the risk the patient will develop post-treatment tooth sensitivity.
